I often get asked what kind of boards I surf/travel with. I love to have 2 boards with me so I can adapt to a variety of waves. Many of you know I swear by my 7’6 mini mal — it’s a bit of a pain to travel with, but I’m always so happy to have it with me.
It’s my “comfort” board, which means I always know I can surf it no matter the conditions, big or small. Recently I’ve really gotten into this little @dhdsurf 5’7 twin fin — it took me a while to get the hang of it but I’ve been enjoying it so much on these perfect Indonesian peelers.
Finding the right board can be hard and take time, but my best advice is to not be afraid to try different shapes and sizes. Remember that having the shortest, thinnest board out there doesn’t automatically make you a better surfer. It’s about catching the most waves and having fun, even if you’re on a foam board or a 10ft banana boat.
