Having grown up near warm water my entire life without the need for anything more then a bikini, it was a welcome gift to help me brave the cold waters of France while I was studying at university. I remember the rubber feeling so soft, and being so surprised at how much mobility I had for paddling.
Welll, lucky for me, Roxy have stayed consistent with the quality of design and technology they put into their wetsuits, which keeps getting better year after year.
It wasn’t long after being gifted my first wetsuit that I moved to Australia, where I discovered that the Tasman Sea (where Sydney is located) required a different wetsuit for every season.

“Year after year, as I transition from full steamer to springsuit and one piece/rashie, I get a good feel for what I need and when I need it. ”
As a long time Roxy fan, it was a dream when the team asked me to test run their latest collection.
I broke down their latest and greatest styles, to give you an insight into what exactly (as an example) the new Satin Collection holds different compared to all the other neoprene out there.
This guide will give you the tools you’ll need to help you decide on what wetsuit works best for your surf style and climate.
So, let’s start!

Good for:Long water sessions where warmth and flexibility are key. Front zip means you’re practically sealed into your suit with very few ways for water to trickle in. The front zip entry system with speed zip (that’s what we call the magnet feature) means there’s no fussing around to find the zipper.
Use this if:You’re ready to shred

With all components of this suit made with the highest technology, the Satin collection’s front zip steamer has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a performance wetsuit. The Stretch Flight 2 technology and glide skin seal ensure you stay warm enough with a full range of motion through the shoulders and hips. The seam technology around your wrists, ankles and neck make sure there is minimal water seeping into your wetsuit, keeping you dry well into your session.
Warmth: Warm Flight Technology keeps your body heat in and the water out.
Fit/Flexibility: Stretch Flight 2 is a lightweight, eco-friendly limestone that offers full range of motion. Paddle like a pro and look like one too.
Style: The Satin front body panel creates a sheen-like look and figure-hugging illusion, emphasising the female body shape and making you feel way less like a beached seal and more like a mermaid.
Good for:Easy to slide into, this style is identical to the one above. The main difference being the back-zip feature with an adjustable neck closure and extra panel (aptly named the hydro shield water barrier) that creates a secure and water tight seal, meaning there’s little to no chance of any cold water trickling down your back.
Use this if:You need a little less fuss then an over-the-head wetsuit and love the freedom of a back zip.

Style: Same as above, the Satin front body panel creates a sheen and figure-hugging illusion, emphasising the female form but with the easy entry of a back zip. It will be a little less warm than your over the head zip system though.
Good for:Those warm summer days where you still need a little something.
Use this:If you’re feeling a little cheeky and want to tan your legs.

“If you live in any regions around the Atlantic and Pacific oceans that don’t involve the tropics, this spring suit is most likely your go-to in the warmer months of the year.”
Ultra-light weight, it feels like a second skin. The design is sleek, modern and features the glide skin material on the panel of the front body for a figure flattering cut. Not to mention, it keeps everything in place without you having to worry about adjusting any wardrobe malfunctions.
Warmth: The 1mm is the perfect transition for Spring into Summer months.
Fit/Flexibility: The cheeky cut bottom means your legs and hips are free to perform at their best.
Style: Elegant, flattering and with an adjustable front zip for that cool-girl effect.
Good for:A traditional (some would say vintage) silhouette with maximum coverage and 0 worries.
Use this if:The weather is warm but the water is still cold enough to determine how long your session will be.
This is actually a personal favourite of mine, perfect for the in-between months when spring/summer is creeping up, but the water is still catching up!
Warmth: The front zip design means you’re locked and sealed with minimal-to-no water passing through thanks to the same Stretch Flight 2 Technology.
Fit/Flexibility: The mid-thigh bottoms still offers just as much range of motion as the bikini spring suit, with the added bonus of keeping your upper legs warm.
Style: Sleek and modern, with a vintage feel. Created with performance in mind.

Hi! Thanks for the thorough review. Can you tell me more about the fit for the spring suit? So you feel it is true to size, and how difficult is it to get on/off? Also, do you have trouble getting the zipper to stay up? TIA!
Hey Belinda! Thanks for reading. The spring suits are true to size, so you if you are typically a 6 or 8 then you get your corresponding size in the wettie. There is usually a size guide online or better yet if you can go in store and try. I would say the springsuits are very easy to get on/off, more so then the steamers! Steamers take a bit of practice but you get the hang of it pretty quickly.
And for the zipper, I’m assuming you mean for the springsuits. One of the sprinsuits photographed has a front chest zip and is very sturdy/stays put. I’ve never had any issues with front zip but I understand your concern. Roxy ones stay up, unless the zip has an issue or you are larger in the chest area, in which case you may need to size up.
Hope this helps! All the best with your wetsuit decisions 🙂
