9 Rad Surf Suits for the Lineup

SURFSUITS.jpg

Warmer weather = Spring suits = Happy surfers.

It’s not anything ground breaking (To quote the late, great, Miranda Priestly circa Devil Wears Prada), but I do love a good tropical print for spring. Seeing all the new designs roll out when the weather gets warm only means one thing : time to update the surf wardrobe.

Who says you can’t look good while shredding? Best part of surfing like a girl, is looking like one too. I say let’s embrace the fact that we are able to look damn good in the water.

Surf suits differ from Springsuits because of the material that is used, meaning a thin, rash guard material, as opposed to the 2mm thicker versions. It’s got UV protection for those long hours under the sun, while still enjoying the water without feeling constricted. The water is warming up down here in Sydney, and while a 2mm is definitely still needed, these beauties are perfect for tropical waters.

Here are a few pieces that have been on my radar lately. Most of these are surf suits, but I do mention a few 2mm Spring suits if you like to stay on the warm side.

All will guarantee an extra splash of style in the lineup.

9 Surf suits for summer

June Swimwear

June Swimwear is a pretty epic brand hailing from Montreal, Quebec. These guys live and breathe summer. I took their Nickie One Piece with me to Bali on my last trip, safe to say I was mucho impressed. The design is unique, material feels great, and I pretty much had in on jumping in and out of Bingin all the time. Definitely a summer style I’ll keep wearing

Roxy

Call me biased, but I really really love Roxy’s new spring/summer collection, which I got to trial first hand. The mesh detailing and subtle floral pattern really keeps things feminine without being too overwhelming. Win-Win. The Wild Rash Vest Onesie is my go to, but if you need something warmer, I love this Womens 2mm Pop Surf Long Sleeve with just the right amount of colour.

Seea

Some may say SEEA is the OG Surf Suit. Steering clear of the neoprene variety to let ladies move freely in tropical waters. I love their soft palettes mixed with bold prints. Unlike any other and true to their femine style. Special mention for this little number, the Hermosa Surf Suit, bringing out all the sunset surf feels.

The St.Helena

Escapades Sports Suit realistically, I don’t see how your little ladies are gonna stay put if you’re really shredding and tumbling around in the white wash. But for those hot heatwave days when the sun is shining and there’s cruisy longboard waves around, I don’t see why you can’t shimmy into this little number. Love the cut and colour, so very feminine. Perfect reminder of summer. (Their Cayman One Piece also happens to be stunning for just a day at the beach!)

Rip Curl

Hanalei Bay Surf Suit is the lighter version of the 2mm Wetsuit. It’s a little louder, but hey, why not? A real stand out in the lineup.

If you need something warm and not too flashy, I’d definitely go with this one 2 Rip Curl Madi Ls Boyleg Springsuit. No bullshit, no fuss. Just how I like it.

Salt Gypsy

The ultimate ECONYL, sustainable fabric, the wonderful Danny over at Salt Gypsy knows how to design a surf suit, or two, or three… . Her latest designs have the ultimate surfer babe in mind. One that’s conscious of the environment and it’s impact on our favourite play ground. Long sleeves, short sleeves, florals, colour blocks, Salty Gypsy’s got it all.

The Upside

This Leopard Paddle Suit is definitely on my list. Since I was already really loving their latest yoga gear, it was a pleasant surprise to see The Upside release their beach collection. I kind of really love leopard. Not in the “LEOPARD-EVERYWHERE” kinda way, but in the “hey I’m sort of bad-ass enough to pull a little leopard here and there” kind of way. Aren’t we all?

Abysse

Another sustainable, conscious eco-friendly brand I love, Abysse is as bad ass as it gets. Their latest range offers this Checkered bad boy, is available both surf suit and neoprene. Race you to the checkout.

Duskii

Nothing says Bond-Girl-with-a-tropical-twist like Duskii. Having first discovered them on a shoot with Cait Miers for Mocho, I was lucky enough that my gal pals and I got to frolic all day in the surf and test them out. Style, comfort, and all the goods that go with it. If you’re into that classy, minimalistic chic look, this is your definite go-to. Particularly love this Waikiki Nights Long Sleeve .
